Traditional design Turkish Rug handwoven in Yahyali in the Central South of Anatolia, Turkey by Tribal Weavers up to 70 years ago. Nestled at the foot of the Erciyes Mountains, weavers in Yahyali benefit from the availability of quality wool grown by local shepherds who inhabit the mountainous regions as well as the sunny, temperate climate which is perfect for wool dying and rug drying and “curing.” Yahyali rugs such as this are typically woven of shiny, high quality sheep wool, densely piled and quite heavy. Design elements usually include bold, large geometric lozenges / medallions on a plain central field which are encased by more intricate, sometimes repeated, borders.
