This is an outstanding example of an Antique Caucasian Shirvan rug, originally woven in the early 1900s by local weavers in the Southern Caucasian mountain region which is now known as Azerbijan.
Using locally sourced sheep wool colored with vegetable dyes, this is one of the more highly sought after and collectable types of Shirvan Antique Rug as it features the classic Shirvan design of a plain, undecorated central field in Yellow with a distinctive floral / blue border.
This rug has proportions typical of Shirvan weavings, being rectangular in shape and measuring 5 ft 9 in x 4 ft 1 in (175 cm x 125 cm)
