Description
The medallion and spandrels are related to those seen on some knotted pile carpets from Iran ; the floral motifs in offset rows connected by branches are related to those on some Herat rugs. The so-called Senneh Kilims might have originally been produced from cartoons in connection with knotted carpets weaving. The term Senneh both refers to the weaving proving, and defines a specific structure, that of floral motifs with many small slits. In order to obtain a fine structure frequently cotton warp threads were used.
